Shortbread Biscuits – Easy Shortbread Cookies
These cookies will melt in your mouth and are guaranteed to make your mouth water. This is a basic shortbread recipe, making it easy to follow and easy to bake more than once a week considering that they are hard to put down. So make sure you double the measurements because you will definitely need to bake a double batch of these delicious shortbread cookies. These shortbread biscuits are also very traditional and reliable compared to many other recipes calling for unusual and often unnecessary ingredients.
Shortbread Biscuits – Ingredients
Makes 12 cookies
- 1 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/3 cup White Sugar
- ¾ cup Butter
- 1 to 2 tbsp Icing Sugar (optional)
Shortbread Biscuits – Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9″ x 9″ baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, sugar and butter together until you get a stiff dough.
- Add the sugar to the butter and mix until combined. Mix in the flour mixture until a smooth dough forms
- Into the baking dish, pat the dough in evenly, making sure it is no higher than 2/3″ deep. Gently prick the top of the shortbread with a fork.
- Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are a pale golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool until warm to the touch.
- Once the cookies have cooled to the appropriate temperature, cut them into squares, or another desired shape. Dust the tops of the cookies with the icing sugar, if desired.
- Place the cookies into an airtight container.
*Tips
Add some extracts for an extra flavor to these cookies. Some suggestions are vanilla, orange or rum, it’s up to you.
If experiencing a chocolate craving, add some cocoa powder to the batter before mixing.
